The Aftermath: The Pedagogy of the Pit

Text: 2 Samuel 13:1-20

In this message, the Pedagogy of the Pit, we are going to look at the story of our sister, Tamar, who is shouting “#metoo” from the depths of her soul. Her soul has been impacted by the trauma of rape! This traumatic experience reveals to us what it feels like to be dehumanized, disgraced, and disrespected into the pit! This very personable and painful story tells us a lot about power and who has it.

In the Pedagogy of the Pit, pay attention to the lessons of the oppressor, the oppressed, and the observer: Today’s transformational principles are:

  1. Dehumanized, Disgraced, and Disrespected into the Pit
  2. God’s Redemptive Power
  3. God will Restore and Heal You
  4. The Sufficiency of Grace
  5. Infused with Inner Strength and Confident Peace
  6. Wash Your Face and Get Back Up

In the Pedagogy of the Pit, I am praying that we learn the lessons from Tamar’s story so that we can identify the strongholds (mindsets and heart-sets) that establishes constructs and constraints that perpetuate oppression that must come down and be changed.
